Another good practice. New songs continue to improve. Tried out 'My Girl' but it sounded terrible. To say we murdered it would be being kind...so we moved on. I told the guys we have an outdoor gig next year in North Yorkshire...around 20th June, My friend and colleague is organising NIDDSTOCK in his back garden (I say back garden but here it is http://oldpo.co.uk/field.aspx ) This incarnation of the band hasn't done an alfresco perfromance before so looking forward to it.

Worryingly I also found clips there from another UK band called The Zodiacs doing similar material to us. Since we've been around since 1964 (or thereabouts) we may well have first claim to the name...let battle commence!

I discovered at Monday's practice that John has the first sound credit ever to appear on Channel 4 as he did the sound for the first episode of Countdown...AND...he helped record the music for it!...how cool is that!. My only claim to fame is trying to buy a video recorder off Brian Clough...but that's another story.

I thought I should also share with you Paul and Doug's running battle over BMWs. Paul has just ordered a new one which will arrive in a couple of months. Doug has taken the opportunity to make Paul aware that all BMW drivers are knobheads (in his considered opinion). Paul was equally keen to point out that only last week a BMW passed him with the persoonalised number plate of DOUG. One All I'd say. By the way Doug drives a soft-top Volvo.

And finally my very expensive Variax 700 has died on me and needs to go for repair (which it will when I can afford it). So my 25 year old pink Pasiley Telecaster has been dusted off and is back in service. A 21st present from my parents, she still sounds lovely. I must remember not to neglect her in future....Gary

Welcome to the Zodiacs Blog. Here's where you'll find our latest news and gossip.

07/07/08 - Practice night. A splendid time was had by all with everyone on good form. A few new numbers worked on tonight, Get Back, Bye Bye Love, My Generation, Hard to Handle...all coming along nicely.  Decided to try out some of the back catalogue as it has been December 07 since we played them live last!...anyway sounded great...6345789, Johnny B Goode, Substitute...excellent stuff.

For the record a few things always happen during a practice such as;

• Paul always needs the loo as soon as he arrives
• Doug always farts a lot and asks you to pull his finger before doing so.
• Gary loses his voice and instead of singing, coughs his way through the numbers.
• John always has a new joke. Tonight's was a particularly good read through of a spoonerised Two Ronnies sketch...very rude and we were all crying with laughter by the end of it.

Anyway, things looking good for the August 24th gig. Next practice scheduled for 21st July.....Gary
